You must be at least 13 years of age to use Standard Notes. By creating an account, you represent that you meet this age requirement. If you are under 18, you represent that your legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these terms.
To use certain features of Standard Notes, you must create an account using a valid email address. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials, including your password and encryption keys. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.
Automated account creation (bots, scripts, or other automated means) is prohibited without prior written consent.
You agree not to use Standard Notes for any illegal purposes or in violation of any applicable laws. You shall not use the service to store, transmit, or distribute any content that violates the rights of others, or to engage in harassment, abuse, or harmful conduct.
While your data is encrypted end-to-end and we cannot access your content, you remain solely responsible for the content you store using our service.
We strive to maintain high availability of the Standard Notes service, but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Scheduled maintenance, unexpected outages, or force majeure events may temporarily affect availability. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of planned maintenance in advance.
You retain full ownership of all content you create and store using Standard Notes. We claim no intellectual property rights over your data. Your content is encrypted end-to-end, meaning only you possess the keys needed to decrypt it.
Standard Notes offers both free and paid subscription plans. Paid subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring basis. You may cancel your subscription at any time. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis.
The Standard Notes brand, logo, website design, and proprietary code are the property of Standard Notes. Our application code is open-source and available under the AGPLv3 license on GitHub.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Standard Notes shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the service, including but not limited to data loss, service interruptions, or security breaches.
Any dispute arising from these terms or your use of Standard Notes shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association. You agree to waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration.
By creating an account, you consent to receiving electronic communications from us, including service announcements, administrative messages, and (if opted in) newsletters. You may opt out of non-essential communications at any time.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms. You may delete your account at any time through the application settings. Upon termination, your encrypted data will be deleted from our servers in accordance with our data retention policy.
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or through the application. Your continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
